Build a clean WordPress news / information website from draft layouts
Build a clean WordPress news / information website from draft layouts
Posted June 22, 2026
Development
We are looking for an experienced WordPress specialist or small WordPress team to help create a clean, modern information/news-style website on WordPress.
At this stage, we have draft layouts that show a possible placement of elements, content blocks, and page structure. These layouts are not final designs and should not be treated as a finished website or final visual direction.
We are open to different approaches: improving the current draft direction, redesigning it significantly, creating a new WordPress theme/design concept, or building a cleaner and lighter WordPress structure from the ground up if that makes more sense.
The goal is to create a serious, content-focused, mobile-first editorial website with strong readability, clear navigation, good content discovery, reusable content blocks, fast performance, and an easy publishing experience for editors.
This is not only a visual design task. We are looking for someone who can review the draft layouts, understand the content logic, and suggest the best WordPress approach: whether that means refining the current direction or rebuilding the concept more properly.
The visual direction should be more editorial and information-focused: clean typography, clear hierarchy, fast pages, simple navigation, and a layout that feels trustworthy and easy to read. We are not aiming for a glossy magazine look or a generic news template.
Draft layouts for reference:

Article page layout:

Again, these are only draft layouts showing a possible structure and content logic. They need to be reviewed critically and can be changed significantly.
Possible first phase may include:
- review of the draft layouts and content structure;
- recommendation on the best WordPress approach;
- decision whether to refine, redesign, or rebuild the concept;
- homepage template;
- category/archive page;
- article page;
- guide/information page;
- author/expert page;
- search/results page;
- reusable editorial/content blocks;
- mobile-first layout;
- performance-focused WordPress setup.
We are flexible regarding the technical approach. It could be a custom WordPress theme, Gutenberg blocks, ACF-based structure, a lightweight theme framework, or another clean WordPress setup if you believe it is the best solution.
What matters most to us:
- strong editorial structure and content hierarchy;
- typography and readability;
- mobile-first user experience;
- fast loading and clean front-end structure;
- scalable WordPress setup;
- easy content management for editors;
- reusable templates and content blocks;
- SEO-friendly structure;
- long-term maintainability.
We would especially like to hear from specialists who have worked on WordPress news, media, online magazine, publishing, or content-heavy editorial websites.
When replying, please send 2–3 live WordPress examples that are close to this type of project.
For each example, please briefly mention:
1. live URL;
2. what exactly you did;
3. whether it was a custom theme, Gutenberg, ACF, Elementor, or another setup;
4. whether you worked on homepage, category/archive pages, article pages, author pages, search, or content blocks;
5. whether you handled performance or mobile optimization.
We are not against builders or existing frameworks if they are used carefully, but we are not looking for just a generic news template installation. The project needs a thoughtful editorial structure and clean WordPress implementation.
After reviewing the draft layouts, please share your initial thoughts on the best approach, whether you would recommend refining, redesigning, or rebuilding the concept, possible first phase, timeline, and approximate budget.
