Job Description

Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.

Hey, g’day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!

Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time-consuming and you’re probably keen to find out what’s on offer, so we’ll get straight to the point.

Where and how you can work

Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have a choice in where and how you work—we trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.

What you’d be doing in this role

This year the Learning Experience group’s mission is to ignite creativity in every learner by being fun and accessible, saving teachers and course creators time, and looking after every learner—whether in school, on campus, or in the workplace. We want Canva to evolve into a best-in-class learning tool that drives engagement and long-term retention.

During the first half of 2025, we’re focused on giving teachers compelling reasons to invite their students by launching new features that make learning more engaging in Canva and increasing the visibility and utility of existing ones (like Courses, Lessons, and interactive elements).

As an Engineering Manager, you’ll:

Lead a motivated frontend engineering team focused on building AI-generated learning content and a new learning library

Help design and deliver intuitive, scalable user experiences for learners and educators

Collaborate cross-functionally with design, product, and data partners to shape meaningful solutions

Drive technical strategy and lead team rituals like planning, retros, and reviews

Coach and mentor engineers through regular feedback and career growth conversations

Set clear team goals and foster an open, inclusive, high-performing culture

Actively contribute to feature development—this is a hands-on leadership role

Stay current with frontend best practices and help continuously improve performance and usability

What you bring to the role

Strong experience in frontend engineering (ideally in TypeScript/React or similar), with a passion for crafting seamless and accessible user experiences

Prior leadership experience coaching engineers and managing high-performing teams

A pragmatic approach to delivery—you’re able to break ambitious ideas into actionable, measurable outcomes

Product sensibility and empathy for end users, especially educators and learners

Experience in the learning or ed-tech sector is a big plus, especially if you’ve built tools that help people teach or learn

The ability to lead with context, not control—you’re great at setting direction while empowering your team to solve problems

Experience collaborating in cross-functional squads (design, PM, data, QA)

Comfort getting hands-on with code when needed to support the team

A growth mindset and a love of learning—you’re curious, adaptable, and excited about Canva’s mission to democratize design and education

What’s in it for you?

Achieving our crazy big goals motivates us to work hard—and we do—but you’ll experience lots of moments of magic, connection, and fun woven throughout life at Canva, too. We also offer a range of benefits to support your success in and outside of work.

Here’s a taste of what’s on offer:

Equity packages – we want our success to be yours too

Inclusive parental leave policy that supports all parents and carers

An annual Vibe & Thrive allowance to support your wellbeing, social connection, office setup & more

Flexible leave options that empower you to recharge, give back, and take care of yourself
